These programs are designed for individuals with a bachelor’s degree who want to become a certified teacher. There are two pathways to certification at the Master’s level: traditional or alternative (also known as Option 6 or MAT). The coursework is the same for both pathways. Students in the traditional pathway complete the program and become certified before seeking employment as a teacher. Students in the alternative pathway work as a teacher while completing the program. To be eligible for admission to the alternative pathway, individuals must have a job offer from a Kentucky school as the teacher of record and be teaching in their intended certification area.
