These programs are designed for an individual with a bachelor's degree who wants to become a certified teacher for the first time. There are two pathways to certification at the Master's level: traditional or alternative (also known as Option 6, MAIC, or MAT). The coursework is the same for both pathways. Students in the traditional pathway complete the program and become certified before seeking employment as a teacher. Students in the alternative pathway work as teachers while completing the program. To be eligible for the alternative pathway, individuals must have a job offer from a Kentucky school as the teacher of record and be teaching in their intended certification area. The initial certification program is a 30-33 credit hour program, depending on the certification you are seeking. All courses are online and designed to meet your busy schedule. Assignments and project implementation are based on your current or desired employment.
