DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION (DOSE)

DESCRIPTION

The Director of Special Education is a Kentucky administrative certification. The Director of Special Education program is for certified teachers who hold a Master’s in Education and have experience as a special education teacher or school psychologist.

You will develop knowledge and skills to advocate, nurture, and sustain a culture that promotes student success. Upon completion of this program, you will understand the legal and ethical aspects of the school system and be prepared to support teachers as they implement best practices in special education. Coursework addresses budgeting and funding sources.

Throughout the program, you will have a mentor Director of Special Education. You will participate in observations of teachers where you can share knowledge, skills, and training that encourages teachers to advocate for and support students. With each course, you will build rapport with faculty, staff, and support personnel as well as students and families. Practical experiences will allow you to develop and demonstrate the knowledge and skills to serve as a Director of Special Education.

Upon successful completion of the program requirements, candidates will be recommended for Director of Special Education certification.

EDA600 Introduction to School Leadership by Leading, Teaching, Learning (3 hours)

ECE700 Administration of Special Education Programs (3 hours)

EDA604 Organization and Legal Aspects of the School Principal (3 hours)

ECE702 Advanced Topics in Assessment and Collaboration for Special Education Leaders (3 hours)

ECE704 Special Education Law and Finance (3 hours)

ECE706 Internship in Ed Leadership: Director of Special Education (6 hours)

Level 1: 15 hours

Level 2: 6 hours

 

The first phase of the program is the completion of 15 credit hours for Level I certification. The second phase is the completion of 6 credit hours for Level II certification. There are no in-person class meetings. Assignments and project implementation can be based on your current or desired employment.
